EXHIBITION THEME This exhibition is a collaborative effort with the
Mid Atlantic College Art Association. We are seeking artwork that reflects, represents, poses questions about the theme. Artists’ statements are requested and will be displayed along with the selected artwork.


The Mid-America College Art Association is a professional society of college and university artist/teachers. Founded in the late 1930s, MACAA originally drew its membership from academic administrators and art historians who felt the need to discuss professional issues pertinent to the Midwest. Over the years, MACAA has grown far beyond the Midwest and regularly attracts members and conference participants from across the country. Also, it has evolved into an organization primarily (but not exclusively) geared to the practical and philosophical interests of studio faculty.

JURORS Kirstin L. Ellsworth has a Ph.D. in the History of Art from Indiana University (2005).  Growing up with a father who collects prints has given her a life-long interest in art and especially works on paper that led her to complete a Ph.D. in the History of Art at Indiana University (2005).  Dr. Ellsworth's dissertation Icons on the American Landscape in the 1960s: Mapping the Culture of Car and Road is an examination of the depiction of automobiles by artists in the 1960s and the relationship of the automobile to the American Dream.  Recent publications include "Africobra and the Negotiation of Visual Afrocentrisms: in Civilisations and "David Furman: Participatory Expectations" in The Artist is in the Details: The Ceramic Art of David Furman.  She is also the author of "Grace Nicholson: Redrawing the Boundaries of Art and Life" published by the Pacific Asia Museum.  Dr. Ellsworth has presented her research on the 1960s African American arts collective Africobra at the Smithsonian American Art Museum.  Currently she holds two positions at California State University Dominguez Hills: Lecturer in the Department of Art and Design and Assistant Professor in the Humanities Masters of Arts Program in the College of Extended and International Education.

PRESENTATION All work must be ready for installation. Hung pieces must be framed, wired, and under Plexiglas. There are no size restrictions, but all shipping containers must conform to UPS shipping standards for size and weight.

HAND DELIVERY Deliver to Sisson Gallery at Henry Ford Community College Sept. 26, 10 a.m- 6:00 a.m.

SHIPPING All shipped work must arrive at the Sisson Gallery between September 17th-26th. All entries must include INCLUDE PRE PAID RETURN SHIPPING LABELS or FEDEX BILLING NUMBER and sent in strong reusable cartons.  Be advised that artists will be responsible for the full cost of return shipping and will be billed accordingly. Upon acceptance into the exhibition you will receive further instructions about shipping and return shipping. Any abandoned work - not picked up or lacking prepaid return shipping cost - will become the property of LAPS.

Artists must insure their own work while in transit. Works arriving late or damaged cannot be included in the exhibition.

SALES Work will be sold at the price listed on the entry form, plus sales tax. There will be a 25% commission on all sales.

LIABILITY Every precaution will be taken in handling the prints. The Los Angeles

Printmaking Society and Henry Ford Community College will not assume responsibility for work damaged in transit. Henry Ford Community College will insure the exhibited prints during the show. LAPS does not assume liability for the prints.

AGREEMENT Filing of the entry form constitutes agreement with all conditions outlined in this prospectus, including permission to photograph work for archival and promotional purposes.

IN-PRINT: Five Centuries of Prints and Multiples

New York-based Curator Margaret Mathews-Berenson presents the last of her tri-fold series of exhibitions mined from the RAM Permanent Collection. A slight departure from her previous two exhibitions, which focused on the subject matter-derived themes of Landscape and Portraiture, IN-PRINT highlights works that are characterized by a diverse artistic medium: the Print. Originating in 5th century China with the advent of woodblock printing, Printmaking has experienced dramatic developments since its birth. Displaying prime examples of such print techniques as: woodblock carving, engraving, etching, monotype, silkscreen, and lithography, IN-PRINT is host to centuries of print culture and experimentation.  From 16th century ornamental engravings by Daniel Hopfer, to 19th century Will Bradley lithographs and contemporary sculptural pieces utilizing print elements by Brian Eno, Yinka Shonibare, and Robert Lazzarini, IN-PRINT offers a sweeping glance at a rich and ever-evolving scope of art-making.

As with the previous two exhibitions, IN-PRINT also presents the fruits of a collaborative internship project with Creative Writing and Art History students from UC Riverside, La Sierra University, and Cal State San Bernardino. These eight gifted individuals worked alongside Curator Margaret-Mathews Berenson to produce an on-demand book featuring selected images from the exhibition paired with original poems and writings by the students, responding to specific works. Copies of the book will be available for sale and work to support RAM programming and exhibitions.


PNET Exhibit 2012

The Printmakers Network (PNET) have put together a beautiful show of new prints by Sioux Bally-Maloof, Kathryn V. Crabbe, Adeola Davies-Aiyeloja, Mary Grinyer, Jan Harvey, Jill Jones, Veronica Lucas, Sue Mitchell, Sue Simonin, Sarah Smith, and Sharon Zorn-Katz.

Artists may submit two entries – both prints will be eligible for exhibition. 

ELIGIBLE TYPES OF WORK:  Original, two-dimensional intaglio prints including etchings, engravings, aquatints, mezzotints, carborundums, and photo etchings not previously exhibited with the NYSE.  Mixed media prints where one of more of these processes dominates may also be submitted. PAPER SIZE - INCLUDING IMAGE - MAY NOT EXCEED A MAXIMUM 22”X 30”

EXHIBITION FORMAT: The format of the exhibition requires that prints be professional matted, glazed under plexi, and framed – no exceptions.  If planning to ship work – do not send loosely ‘floated’ prints which may get damaged.

AWARDS:  $250 Awards for Distinction, and non-cash Awards for Excellence may be given by the Board of Directors of the New York Society of Etchers to artists whose accepted print exhibits exceptional artistic and technical merit.
