LAPS members Nancy Haselbacher, Camilla Taylor, Cathy Weiss, Mary Sherwood and Sarah Pavsner Mael manned the booth and ran continuous demonstrations for the Los Angeles Printmaking Society in the 3rd annual Printers Fair at the International Print Museum in Carson, CA. held this past October 1, 2011. Organized by Rachelle Chuang for the Museum, this years event drew over a thousand print enthusiasts from all over Southern California sampling a range of venders and events throughout the day.

The Department of Art and University Galleries at Texas A&M University Corpus Christi are pleased to announce the inaugural Oso Bay North American Printmaking Exhibition, a competitive juried competition held in conjunction with the 2012 Oso Bay Biennial. This month-long festival has proudly served fine art and culture to the South Texas Region for over 30 years. This year's events focus on the expansive realm of Printmaking.

AWARDS:
Merit, Purchase and Materials Awards totaling over $2500 will be announced by the jurors during the closing reception on Thursday, April 26th 2012.    A Materials Award from generous sponsors will be given in each category: Lithography, Intaglio, Relief and Screenprint.
ELIGIBILITY:
Open to professional artists living in the U.S. and Canada who are 18 and older. Entries must be original fine art prints including traditional, digital or experimental print media. Artists’ books are included, no photographs. Works must be original, not exceed 60 inches in any direction and have been completed in the last 3 years.
ENTRY GUIDELINES:
Work will be juried from jpegs submitted on CD ROM. (Maximum dimensions at eight inches on longest side – 300 dpi maximum resolution).    No slides, please.
Please label each jpeg entry in the following manner: FirstLastName1.jpg, FirstLastName2.jpg, FirstLastName3.jpg, etc
Please write your name and e-mail address on the CD. Notifications will be sent via e-mail. CDs will not be returned.
ENTRY FEE:
$30 for 3 entries, $5 for each additional artwork.    Maximum of 5 entries. Please make a check or money order payable to Texas A&M University Corpus Christi.
SUBMISSION OF ACCEPTED WORK:
All accepted works must be shipped professionally framed, wired and ready to hang. Plexi only, no glass. Special display instructions must be explicitly stated and included in shipping.

About the Competition

Akua is proud to announce a small print competition, held to highlight our selection of blacks and grays. Printmakers are invited to submit up to five prints using any printmaking process using Bone Transparent Black and/or, Graphite and/or, Paynes Gray and/or, Lamp Black and/or, Carbon Black and/or, Mars Faster Drying Black.

Guidelines

  • Create a print using any technique using only Akua Intaglio Bone Transparent Black, Graphite, Paynes Gray, Lamp Black, Carbon Black, and/or Mars Faster Drying Black.
  • Use only Revere or Arches 88 (paper size 5.5”x7.5” )
  • 4” x 4”plate size (any printmaking technique)
  • Up to five entries accepted per printmaker

Materials Needed to Enter the competition

If you already have one or more Akua Intaglio ink colors in Bone Transparent Black, Graphite, Paynes Gray, Lamp Black, Carbon Black, Mars Faster Drying Black, Revere or Arches 88 paper and a 4″ x 4″ plate you are set to go. For your convenience sets including these materials are available.

Paper & Plate Packet pre-cut to competition requirement size
Twelve Sheets of Paper:
2 sheets each of 6 different papers(Revere smooth in Polar White, Standard White, Warm White, Ivory, Bisque, and ultra smooth Arches 88). All papers are 5.5 x 7.5 inches.
One 4″ x 4″ plate: Plate can be used for drypoint, monotype or stencil, etc.  4×4 inches

How Winners Will Be Selected

The name and corresponding image of 20 finalists will be posted on the Akua website. An online voting poll will take place to select the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prize winners. This online voting poll will be open to everyone. Please invite friends and family to vote. Only one vote per person allowed.

Timeline

Jan 2, 2012 – deadline for receiving entry form and images
Jan 16 , 2012 – twenty finalists will be posted on the Akua website.
Jan 17, 2012 voting poll begins at 2PM
March 31, 2012 – voting poll will close at 4pm
April 2, 2012 – winners will be announced on the Akua website and e-newsletter (winners will also be contacted personally)
April 9. Online exhibition showing winners and finalists will be posted on the Akua website print gallery.

How do I Enter Competition Details (printer friendly)

  1. Fill out the entry form to be submitted with the works.

Applicant must include a self addressed envelope with pre-paid postage for return of prints or discs. Rostow & Jung reserves the right to discard images without return postages.
