West Hollywood, CA (March 13, 2014) – Printmaking is rooted as a democratic medium. Abundant, affordable, multiple impressions of the same image revolutionized the dissemination of social and political ideas to the masses. Showcasing the work of 92 prints from 75 printmakers nationwide, the Give & Take exhibition includes a wide range of printmaking approaches, from traditional to nontraditional/experimental. Printmakers included in the exhibition communicate their personal commentary over a range of topics – from mass media and current events, to reflections on abstraction.

Printmakers and art collectors will help support the printmaking outreach efforts of the Los Angeles Printmaking Society through the funds raised by the sale of prints. Each image is a part of an edition of ten 8x10 inch prints. Five prints from each edition are available for sale in order to raise funds for LAPS printmaking outreach. An asking price of $30 for one print and $50 for two prints will allow for the prints to be attainable to many collectors, honoring the roots of printmaking as a democratic medium. Participating printmakers will receive work of fellow printmakers through an exchange portfolio of five prints returned for each edition submitted.

The Los Angeles Printmaking Society, a national nonprofit organization based in Los Angeles, California, is dedicated to the encouragement of printmaking, devoted to the interests of printmakers and supportive of public and private collections of fine prints. LAPS opened the LA Print Space as a venue focused on exhibiting printmaking work to the Los Angeles community.

All artists who submitted print editions to the Give & Take exhibition are exhibited, including both LAPS members and non-members, to support printmakers at all stages of their career. LAPS encourages the inclusion of a wide range of approaches to printmaking, encompassing the traditional to the nontraditional/experimental, and desires to promote a venue for all relevant print processes.
