LAPS Artist Membership Application
To become an artist member of LAPS, one can be juried in during the LAPS National biennial exhibition or during the twice yearly membership jury.
A jury of 3 LAPS members meets twice a year in the Spring and Fall to review images and prints presented by applicants ( see below)  for artist membership.
All other LAPS membership levels are open year round for application.

LAPS Artist Membership Application  

Applicants should submit one of the following:
The Los Angeles Printmaking Society invites printmakers to apply for membership to the society. Applications will be juried by distinguished members of the art community. Artists may submit either a portfolio of original work or a CD of 6 images.

Portfolios: A portfolio of six prints made in the past two years, at least two of which must be traditional and editionable printmaking process, such as intaglio, relief, lithography and etc. Please indicate the process for each piece. Work need not be matted, but should be protected. LAPS will not accept framed work and will not be responsible for loss or damaged works from any cause. Artists may wish to carry their own insurance.

CD: Digital images of six prints made in the past two years, at least two of which must be traditional and editionable printmaking process, such as intaglio, relief, lithography and etc, may be submitted on one CD as jpegs. Digital images should accurately reflect the original print and give the reviewers a sense of how the print fits on the paper, including the edge of the paper and not cropped to image.
-The files name should include both the artist name and piece title, such as P.PicassoDanceoftheFauns.jpeg.
-Files should be 300 DPI with a maximum size of 7 inches in any direction.-The disc must be labelled with the artist name.
-A hardcopy information sheet including the artist’s name as well as the title, media, year of creation, and dimensions of each piece should be included.

If you wish to have your disc returned, a self-address stamped envelope must be included.


 

How to submit your materials:

Local drop off : Artists may drop off their materials at Josephine Press on from 2- 6 PM on Friday, before the Saturday jury meeting date listed on membership. Pick-up will be the following day, Saturday from 2-6 PM. Check time and date posted on the attached New Member Application.

Mail: Out of town applicants may mail their portfolios in a reusable carton and must include return postage. Mailed application materials must arrived by Thursday, before the Saturday Jury meeting date. Materials arriving after this date will not be considered.

Membership Categories

Artist - $50 annually
Benefits: All of the above plus invitations to exhibit in notable LAPS membership exhibitions. Opportunity to exhibit work and post notices on the LAPS web site. To qualify, artist candidates must be juried into a LAPS National exhibition or be accepted through the new member jury held twice a year. Check our "calendar" for the specific dates in the spring and fall.

Student - $15 annually
Benefits: Invitation to all openings. Subscription to "Newsprint" and “Interleaf". Reduced rates for special events. An annual juried group exhibition.

Associate: annual dues - $40 annually
Benefits: Invitations to all openings. Subscription to "Newsprint" and "Interleaf". Reduced rates for special events. Receive all catalogs and posters published by LAPS during the year.

Patron - $150 or $250 annually
Benefits: Same as associate member, but patrons help support our Foundation. As such they are invited to special patron events and may choose one original print for $150 or two original signed prints for $250 from our collection by artist-members.

Membership

When you join LAPS, you become a member of a large diverse artist community that offers opportunities to participate in exhibitions and events in and around Los Angeles and southern California, as well as in notable national and international venues. Los Angeles is a world art center and an exciting place for new faces and new dialogues about art and fine art printmaking. Your membership helps support all the LAPS projects, including the printmaking journal, Newsprint and quarterly newsletter, the Interleaf. Become a member and join an active creative community.

Artist: annual dues: $50
Benefits: Invitations to exhibit in LAPS sponsored exhibitions. Subscription to "Newsprint" and "Interleaf". Opportunity to exhibit your work and post your activities on your own page in the LAPS Membership Gallery. Invitation to post notices on the LAPS Yahoo Groups and the LAPS Facebook. To qualify, artists must submit a membership application with 6 current images. 3 jurors choose new artist members twice a year in the Spring and Fall. Student: annual dues: $15
Benefits: Invitation to all openings. Subscription to "Newsprint" and “Interleaf". Reduced rates for special events. An annual portfolio review. An annual juried group exhibition.
LAPS Student Membership Application

Associate: annual dues: $40
Benefits: Invitations to all openings. Subscription to "Newsprint" and "Interleaf". Reduced rates for special events. Receive all catalogs and posters published by LAPS during the year.

Patron: annual dues: $150 or $225
Benefits: Same as associate member, but patrons help support our Foundation. As such they are invited to special patron events and may choose one or two original signed prints from our collection by artist-members.

LAPS members meet twice a year in the Spring and Fall to review slides and prints presented by applicants for LAPS artist membership. All other membership levels are open year round for application.

Current LAPS Members:
Membership dues are due annually each January and are considered overdue by March 10th and increase to $60. Membership lapses after one year and to reapply artists will have to pay for the missed year or go through the jury process again.
